The Body Routine for a Toned and Even Skin

Good habits have been known to make a difference only when applied consistently. Yet, we often lose interest in a practice when we don’t see immediate results, and we abandon it after a few initial attempts. But as with all things, patience and consistency always pay off, especially when it comes to body care.

The ideal body routine starts with exfoliation

Whether it’s a scrub, a peel, mitt or brush, the goal is always the same: exfoliate. There are many ways to get rid of dead cells sitting on the surface of the epidermis, and make room for new ones, rediscovering brighter, firmer and more even skin. 

  • Body Scrub. Probably the best known and most widely used option. It consists of a cream that contains suspended particles with mildly abrasive power, which are able to remove the surface layer of dead cells from the epidermis.   • Dry Brushing. This is a practice that involves brushing the body with a special brush with semi-hard bristles to promote microcirculation, oxygenate the tissues and at the same time perform a gentle “dry” exfoliation of the body. It is recommended to do this operation in the morning, perhaps before showering, on dry skin, so as to awaken circulation after the night hours.
     
  • Chemical exfoliationPerforms the same function as mechanical exfoliation, but instead of doing it by friction, it does so through the action of chemical molecules. The most commonly used exfoliants for this purpose are certain fruit acids, such as glycolic acid or lactic acid, which help speed up cell turnover. Another ingredient also increasingly used for body products is retinol. Within lotions or cleansers, it helps eliminate the topmost layer of the epidermis, improving and evening out the skin’s texture and complexion.

     

Step 2: An invigorating shower

After exfoliating, it’s time for a nice invigorating shower. Choose an effective but gentle cleanser, and prefer lukewarm showers to long, hot baths, which could weaken the skin barrier in the long run.

Extra pampering for dry areas

The skin of elbows, knees, feet, needs more nourishment than the rest of the body. They are notoriously drier areas and subjected to more friction, so it’s a good habit to dedicate an extra care to them.
