How to Prevent your Hair from Tangling!

When your hair lacks moisture, it leads to friction and tension in your hair, which then cause tangles. The outer layers of your hair shaft break, which results in a rough and damaged look. Lack of hydration can also deteriorate the condition of your hair. Knotted and tangled hair doesn’t just look messy: it can also be painful and difficult to comb out, and it can lead to a great deal of breakage.

There are many things that can cause tangled hair, including particular hair styles and heat products, but knots can also occur in the shower or when you dry your hair. Sleeping without braiding or tying your hair up can lead to some serious tangles. Another major no-no is going to bed with wet hair. Hair is most fragile when it is wet. It can get frizzy quickly and break easily. The tangles caused by lying down with damp hair are a nightmare as they are rigid and tough to remove.

Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do that can prevent your hair from getting tangled. Keep reading to find out what you need to do.

1. Condition Your Hair

After you shampoo, always finish with a moisture-locking conditioner, start from the ends and move upward slightly towards the scalp. Carefully run your fingers through your hair to remove all the knots, then gently comb through your tresses with a wide-toothed comb.  This will detangle your hair without breaking the strands. Leave the conditioner in for 2-3 minutes, then rinse it out. Conditioner smoothens your hair and softens dry strands effectively.

2. Moisturise hair weekly with a Hair Mask

Applying a hair mask once a week can improve your hair texture drastically. Healthy and moisturised hair is less likely to knot and tangle, so along with regular conditioning, try a weekly hair mask or deep conditioning. Hair masks will hydrate and smooth your dry cuticles, leaving your locks silky and soft. Some of the most effective ingredients that can transform your hair texture within a few weeks by using organic ingredients formulated with rich organic extracts and natural oils. We recommend to apply INSIGHT Protective Mask to wet hair, distributing evenly and leaving it on for 5 to 10 minutes.

3. Try rinsing your hair with cool temperature water for the final rinse

If you think that water temperature isn’t important, think again because it actually is. If you learn how to use water of different temperatures to your favour, then it may really benefit your hair. Hot water can make your hair easy to break and weaken the hair roots.

COLD WATER final rinse…

It makes your hair shinier and saves you from frizz. Rinsing your hair with cold water helps with closing your cuticle after your hair is washed. Open cuticle is good while shampooing or conditioning your hair but after you’re done, you want to seal the cuticle, so that your hair doesn’t get damaged too easily. If you use cold water for your final rinse then there’s a much better chance that your hair will stay shiny, healthy and frizz-free for a longer period of time.
It makes your scalp cleaner Just like with closing the hair cuticle, cold water also shuts your pores. Both things are really similar actually – you want open pores when washing hair but closed pores after you’ve finished. It’s because closed pores are much less vulnerable than open ones. What it means is that by rinsing your hair with cold water you protect the scalp pores from things like dirt, grease and oil. If your pores are sealed then you are also much less likely to be suffering from hair shedding.
It improves the blood circulation to your scalp When you’re cold your blood moves faster and your capillaries widen to warm you up. That way your scalp and hair roots get all the valuable nutrients they need to stay healthy. Another thing to mention here is that poor blood circulation can contribute to causing hair loss.  You don’t want that, do you?

4. Use hot tools less

Heat styling tools like blowdryers, straighteners, and curling irons can take a toll on your delicate locks. It can dry out your hair, which then leads to tangling. To avoid this, use the tools on low to medium heat settings. You can further avoid damage by applying a heat protectant before heat styling your hair. Dry your hair gently with towel. Instead of wrapping, twisting, or rubbing your hair, gently squeeze it with a microfiber towel to get out the excess moisture. If you need to blow dry your hair, when you dry your hair, put it on the cool setting & hold-distance it away to protect hair. That mysterious COOL Shot Button on your hairdryer helps seal the hair cuticle, setting the final look for long-lasting hold and adds shine. When your hair is about 80 percent dry, switch over to the cool shot. Cool shot is also great to lock in curls and to get more volume at the crown. Hot air expedites the drying process and actually forms whatever style you’re going for–whether it’s sleek and straight or bouncy and curly. Cold air, however, seals the cuticles of your hair, which sets your style in place and adds shine. Here is some of our favourites: ParluxCompact Hair Dryers.

5. Oil Your Hair Regularly

Yes, everyone needs oil. Applying oil to the hair is vital in keeping the strands and ends healthy. Also, it is a quick way to deal with frizz and add instant shine.

Curly hair is prone to knotting for two reasons: it is prone to dryness, and the strand’s diameter is inconsistent. To address dryness, you should use products containing nourishing oils. If you are skeptical about using oil in fear that it might make your hair look too greasy, look for specialised formula that will moisturise hair without weighing it down or looking greasy- even those of us with baby fine hair. And there are formulas that won’t make hair look greasy, we love INSIGHT STYLING OIL NON OIL  It’s not an oily oil, but a luxurious moisturising oil that won’t weigh your hair down, which can be applied to wet or dry hair, adds Volume, Elasticity & Eliminates Frizz.

6. Care for your hair when you sleep

While cotton is a popular choice for bedding, hair can catch on cotton pillow cases as you sleep, and this can create knots. Instead, look for a polished cotton pillow case, or a smooth fabric such as silk. Dry your hair before bed. Wet hair is more fragile and elastic, and thus more prone to breaking as it rubs against your pillow. Don’t sleep with wet hair! Brush or comb your hair gently before bed. After your hair is dry or mostly dry, comb gently from roots to ends to distribute natural oils from your scalp into the ends of your hair. This will protect your hair by restoring oils washed away by shampoo, as well as removing tangles that may worsen as you sleep. Cover your hair with a scarf or headwrap to reduce tangles and frizz caused by motion during sleep. This will prevent breakage and maintain hair texture. Tie up long hair with a soft fabric scrunchie. You may want to tie your hair up before bed, either to prepare it for wrapping or to preserve or create waves. Never use elastic bands, as these can pull on and break your hair. Tie hair loosely with a fabric scarf or scrunchie instead.
